Four Types of Industrial Fan to Consider for Your Workplace

Terry Reyes

Fans are vital for a whole range of industrial processes. Which type you need will depend upon what you need it for. Here are some of the more common industrial fans that are used today.

Centrifugal Fan

A centrifugal fan consists of blades on a central hub that spins rapidly. This causes the incoming gases to accelerate as they pass over the blades. The system then pushes them out at a right angle to the fan, creating a strong blast of air. They are ideal for extracting gases from a workplace and are, therefore, useful in any environment where there could be a build-up of dust or other harmful pollutants.

Axial Fan

Axial fans are similar to centrifugal fans. The main difference is that whereas a centrifugal fan pushes the air out to the side, an axial fan pushes the gas parallel to the shaft. This does not create such a strong blast of air as a centrifugal fan but does move a high volume of air from one area to another. They are, therefore, useful for general purposes that do not require high pressure and are often used in large workplaces to ventilate the room.

Multi-Vane Fan

A third type of fan is a multi-vane fan. In this type, the blades curve forward. In fact, they are often known as forward-curved fans. They generally work at a lower pressure, but they are able to move large quantities of air or other gases. This makes them useful in extracting stale air from a room. They are also often used in refrigeration units or heaters. They would not be suitable however in tough environments or where a strong blast is needed.

High-Pressure Fans

A fourth type to consider is a high-pressure fan. As you would expect, this expels air at a higher pressure. It can cope with a reasonable amount of air but are perhaps not ideal if a large throughput is needed. They are usually energy efficient, however, making them an affordable choice, and are suitable for use in harsh environments. They are often used in combustion burners, exhaust systems or drying applications.

The type of fan you need will generally depend on the amount of air you need to move, the pressure at which it needs to work, and the harshness of the environment in which it will be operating. Your industrial fan supplier will be able to give further advice on the type of blower or ventilation you need to install. Sweet Operations - Mesmerised By Industrial Equipment And Supplies

Welcome visitors. My name is Tim Hayes and this is my humble blog about industrial equipment and supplies. When I was a child, my dad worked as an engine driver in a sugar mill. I was mesmerised by all the machinery and tools needed to keep the mill functioning. My dad would patiently explain about the gauges and turbines and how they worked. I only ever heard him swear when they were waiting for parts and the machinery wouldn't operate properly! That was the start of my life-long preoccupation with what goes on behind the scenes in producing the goods we take for granted. If you are inquisitive about industrial equipment and supplies, I hope that these posts add some spark to your day. Thank you.
